The Persimon

In Pick 'n Pay today
in the fruit and veg section
we saw what looked like a tomato
which got married to an apricot, and this
was the offspring.
Humbly I asked an elderly gentleman who took great care
to explain to me that this was a Persimon.
(The only way I could remember the name was to think of Percy Montgomery).

What I find most interesting is that Americans call it a loquat.
Now I grew up with loquat trees and KNOW that the fruit is yellow.
So how does America get it so wrong AGAIN ?
I mean, like in Iraq...are they sure they're in the right COUNTRY ?

This was just such an interesting episode in our lives today,
which shows that one lives and learns all the time.

It has the sweetest taste, almost like a plum without the bitter tang.
